Reading Reflection

The reading consisted of ethics and page layout. But what was more important was ethics.

Ethics is important to consider because not only can unethical writing hurt you, but many other people, such as coworkers, the company, or the public. To omit a safety warning on a product can not only hurt the customers, but the company when they come under scrutiny. On the other hand, being ethical can hurt you as well. If a company is trying to save face, they might fire you or repramand you for trying to speak out or disagree.

Determining what is ethical and what isn't, is entirely up to you. You have to decide if it is or not, and what consequences will follow with your choice.

I think the points you made really support the fact that ethics is difficult. For instance, what if you had a job that required you to make ethical decisions, and you needed that job to support your family, and the company will fire you if you make what they think is the wrong decision. If you had a choice to either put a safety warning on a product and save lives or not to put the warning on, and the company did not want you to, what you do? Save other's lives, or save your job? I'm glad I don't have to deal with something like that yet. However, I might have to in the future, especially because I am going to be a technical writer. I think you really got some of the most important ideas out of the reading. Good job!
