Product-Oriented Communication Situations

As I read Chapter 11 of Concise Guide, I realized how much of it pertains to my field. It described manuals, pamphets, specifications, and similar literature. Many times they are created by graphic designers in the company. They are given some information by either a boss or someone within their department, and made to create instructions or the like in consideration to audience, usability, and situations.

For example, putting together an informational pamphlet about a product has some issues to address.
  • How would I promote the product?
  • Who is reading this, a first time buyer, or someone buying a new product from a familiar company?
  • How do I set up the text to make it approachable to the reader? And in what tone do I write it in?

This is a sampling of the issues graphic designers face. Also, the use of color, graphics, and text is crucial to communication. If the product is a new computer chip for a company, it should look professional and almost plain. On the other hand, if it is for a new CD player, it should be flashy and "hip", attracting young buyers.
